Biography

Jean Ritchie QC
Jean Ritchie QC gained law degrees at King’s College London and McGill University Montreal. She was called to the Bar in 1970 and took Silk in 1992. She specialised in clinical negligence cases and has chaired two Government Inquiries: the first into the care and treatment of a psychiatric patient, Christopher Clunis, and the second into the Quality and Practice of the NHS, arising from the actions of Rodney Ledward.

She retired from practice in October 2006. She was a Recorder of the Crown Court until 2008 and was formerly a Judicial Member of the Mental Health Review Tribunal; a member of the Supreme Court Rules Committee; a member of the Judicial Studies Board; and former Head of Hailsham Chambers. She is a Bencher of Gray’s Inn, a member of the Ethics Committee of King Edward VII Hospital, London, and a Trustee of the Bromley Trust. In 2008 she was appointed a Fellow of Winchester College.

She is married to HHJ Guy Boney QC and has two sons.
